Tips for Braces

Cost

  • Thanks to our Care Enough to Share program, your initial exam and panorex x-ray are free.

  • If your child is not ready for treatment, we will place them on a 4-6 month recall sequence.  There is no charge for these visits.

  • Once we examine you or your child at the initial exam and we are ready to start regular treatment, we will discuss the exact cost of treatment.  For patients not covered by insurance please refer to the Orthodontic Services page for payment options.  For Patients with insurance, we will contact your insurance company and find out exactly what your insurance coverage is.  We will subtract this from your treatment fee.  You will budget the difference and we will collect your insurance coverage.   This will free you from this hassle of dealing with any insurance problems.  Please refer to the Orthodontic Services page for different budget options.

    Infection Control

My staff and I are committed to provide the safest, worry free health care possible. We adhere to Center for Disease Control (CDC) and to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommendations.  We take all precautions to prevent any transmission of disease or infection.  This includes dry heat sterilization of all instruments and hand pieces.  We use disposable prophy angles, suction tips, polishing cups and gloves to ensure safety.

    Appointments

One of our main goals is to make every effort to limit the number of times your child will miss school.  Most of our visits will be after school hours, but some visits need to be made during school.  These are longer adjustment visits, usually for placement, repair, or remove of orthodontic appliances.  Our office is very sensitive to parent and patient concerns in this area.

    Emergency Care

Although our orthodontic appliances are designed in such a way to limit the likelihood of damage or breakage, emergencies occasionally occur.  These emergencies usually consist of loose brackets or broken wires.  You will be thoroughly instructed how to deal with these when you start treatment.  If you do have an emergency, be sure to call our office so that we can handle your emergency as soon as possible.  For your peace of mind, each new patient will receive a Brace Emergency Kit.  With this kit, you will be able to handle most emergencies until you can see Dr. Cringoli.

    1. The push stick can be used to move a sharp wire out of the way.

    2. The wax can be used to cover a sharp wire or help keep a loose brace in position.

    3. The wire cutter can be used to cut a long wire or one that has come out of the back tube.

Types of Braces

  •   Metal braces with colors:

The braces themselves are very small.  Each visit your child can pick the colors they want from a selection of over 20 colors.  These braces are very popular and are well accepted by my patients.

  •   Clear ceramic braces:

These braces are the same shade as most common tooth shades, which allows them to blend in with your natural teeth.  Most adults and young adults in high school prefer this type of braces.  We will be happy to show you a sample of these at your initial visit.
